A platform where science and creative minds come together to achieve more than the sum of their parts.
ELEPH-ANTS is a a pool of academics, researchers, recognised experts, well-informed and knowledgeable self-taught individuals, conspiracy-theory-averse free-thinkers, and practitioners who share a common core concern and wish to contribute concrete solutions. At the same time, ELEPH-ANTS is also intended to serve as a platform for any individual or organisation wishing to exchange ideas or wanting to network with like-minded people.
Natural sciences and engineering, mathematics and statistics, historical contextualization and evidence-based social sciences, systemic thinking and deductive methods are the indispensable tools with which ELEPH-ANTS work.
ELEPH-ANTS welcomes new ideas and perspectives that are logical and genuinely constructive. It does not shy away from complexity and can address highly sensitive issues, because ELEPH-ANTS is truly independent.
The thinkers at ELEPH-ANTS may well hold differing or even opposing views on individual projects and ideas. ELEPH-ANTS is a pool and platform, not a political party or an ideological echo chamber.
We are convinced that the future of the coming generations of humanity can only be secured on our unique planet, and nowhere else. That is why ELEPH-ANTS aims to pre-think down-to-earth solutions that will keep our planet liveable for everyone. Paradoxically, best practices are often simple only because they rest on a deep understanding of complex underlying problems.
ELEPH-ANTS is committed to the guiding principles of evolutionary humanism. Thematically, we focus on selected topics also addressed by the Club of Rome, as well as on specific SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) of the United Nations. Ultimately, our operational work involves the analysis, research and testing of scalable, economically viable, ecologically sustainable and people-friendly technologies, systems and services. The aim is to be able to present smart solutions at all levels, from the micro to the macro, for both the present and the future.
Humanity needs raw materials and will continue to rely on fossil fuels for the foreseeable future. But if we are to minimise the risk of our planet’s ecological collapse, we must step up our efforts to recycle materials, utilise renewable energy sources and gradually phase out fossil fuels. This cluster focuses on the analysis, research and testing of scalable technologies, systems and services – from the micro to the macro level – relating to the use of the Earth’s renewable and recyclable natural resources: water, soil, flora and fauna, raw materials and green sources of energy.
The rapid growth of the human population in parts of the world and demographic imbalance, worldwide urbanization, and massive concentrations of populations in coastal areas of the world present a challenge of a magnitude never seen before on our planet. This cluster focuses on scalable solutions to common, fundamental infrastructure challenges.
When it comes to production, trade and human mobility, our digitalised world has become a proverbial global village. Yet there are both converging and diverging trends, actions and reactions. Breath-taking rapid technological progress, global environmental problems, the coexistence of extreme poverty and accumulated wealth, the influence of social media on the information habits of entire generations, the resurgence of extreme religious intolerance and other phenomena are polarising societies and causing turmoil. For many social and socioeconomic problems, there are only context-specific or dynamic solutions.
